Thorsten Steiner is Professor of Neurology and Neurointensive Care and Head of the Department of Neurology at the clinical centre in Frankfurt Höchst, and the Stroke Unit at Hofheim hospital, Germany. He is a member of the faculty and scientific co-worker at the department of Neurology at Heidelberg University, and lecturer in the Department of Neurology at Heidelberg University. Prof. Steiner is also honorary professor at the Department of Clinical Medicine, University of Copenhagen
Thorsten Steiner llevó a cabo su formación de medicina en la Universidad de Heidelberg y la Universidad de Medicina Johns Hopkins de Baltimore, en Maryland (EE. UU.). Recibió el título de “Máster en Educación Médica” en la Universidad de Bern (Suiza).
Thorsten Steiner qualified as a professor of neurology in the field of “malignant infarctions of the middle cerebral artery”. His main research interests are intracerebral haemorrhage (ICH), acute stroke, invasive monitoring, and neuro-intensive care of acute stroke.
Professor Steiner is principal investigator in several national and international clinical studies on ICH and acute stroke. He is author and co-author of peer-reviewed journals including NEJM, Lancet, Lancet Neurol, Stroke IJS, and ESJ on ICH, acute stroke, stroke monitoring, and guidelines.
He currently chairs the European Stroke Organisation (ESO) ICH-Committee. Professor Steiner is chairing the update of the ESO ICH guidelines and is senior- and co-author of several ESO guidelines.
Professor Steiner is member of the board of directors of the World Stroke Organization (WSO), former member of the ESO Executive Committee (until 2023), and former Chair of ESO Guideline Board.
Ha recibido varios premios por sus logros científicos y sus contribuciones a la educación médica. Amongst others, he received the award for leading-edge publication of the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Heidelberg, Germany.
